Mariscos German Beyer - San Diego

Finding Mariscos

On the way back to work from Tijuana, I finally made it to Mariscos German Beyer for the fish tacos.  It was certainly worth trying as we were in a hurry to get back to the office and avoid rush hour traffic.  Unable to score any decent tacos in TJ this time around, we were relegated to getting lunch on the US side as we pushed to leave the TJ office in a hurry.

Fortunate for us Mariscos German Beyer is right off of the 905 as we exited TJ.  We arrived to the quiet parking lot with unsure expectations.  There were a 4 other customers waiting for their orders, so we took our time to decide what to get.  Once our orders were placed, we were offered some soup to enjoy while waiting. This was a nice touch to provide a piquant tomato broth to whet our appetites.  The fish tacos arrived with a nicely battered and fried piece of fish, some cabbage, pico de gallo, and shot of creama.  Three different salsas are provided from mild to more than mild to pump up the heat level.

I also had a mixta tostada that was piled high with shrimp, pulpo, and some fish.  This was enough to share since it came with a second tostada.  This meal definitely helped wipe away the regret of not having tacos in TJ.

If you find your way crossing back from TJ via Otay Mesa, make a stop at Mariscos German Beyer for some fine fish tacos and ceviche.

SF July 2008, Blue Bottle, Ferry Building, etc.

How can a simple cup of coffee, in a paper cup nonetheless, bring about such great joy?
When it is from Blue Bottle in SF, that's how. Simple lattes are made with care, even as the line mounts to near mob levels. Single cup drip coffee is made to order and is strong enough to wake the dead. Simply a wonderful way to start our Saturday in San Francisco.
++
The breakfast at Primavera was pretty good. Chorizo and eggs, tamales, chips/guac/salsa, and aguafresca. Don't want to eat too much of this, no matter how good it is, because there is so much more to sample at the Ferry Building on Saturday...

Marathon Training?- Day 1

After having Christmas brunch with some of the Glenview Locos, who are now in their 40s, it seem like it is time to do those things which you've always pondered, but never did. James K., coming off of his 1st marathon, was there to lend some inspiration to start training for the LA Marathon. It's only 10 weeks away and I really doubt that I can get fit enough to run/walk 26.2, but I'll use the run date to train towards doing to bike tour.

Now I've done the bike tour before and it is relatively easy on a bicycle, but this year I will start training for the 2009 marathon. My "friend" Chong has put it into my head that I need to loose weight. My darling wife hasn't said a word, but I'm sure that she is glad that someone has said something about my unhealthy lifestyle and motivated me to get fit.

Today was Day 1 to train. After a morning filled with last minute Christmas shopping and lunch with my wife, I arrived home to the dogs and more computer time. Just before Lisa got home, I decided to go for a run. How was it?

Now I don't have delusions about my fitness. I know I am way out of shape and probably 30 lbs over what should be my healthy level. After lacing up my kicks, I headed down the street towards the park. I jogged by Kev's house, to find him and his neighbor sitting in the garage kicking back in the neighbor's garage. I wonder what Kev was thinking. I guess I'll find out tonight when we go over there for a Christmas Eve dinner, featuring Turducken.

I ran/walked about 1 mile. Probably 0.5 miles of running and 0.5 miles of catching my breath. It was eyeopening at best. I was only able to make it to the gym before I started walking. My breathing was heavy and shallow and my legs were feeling heavy. I definitely don't have the same lung capacity that I used to. Probably about half of the lung power from before. It was refreshing though once I returned home to a worried Lisa.

The look on her face was part concern and part amazement that I actually went to exercise. I'm known to go out too hard exercising and burning myself out rather quickly. Training for this marathon thing is going to take some dedication. I hope I can keep it up with the support from Lisa, James K and Rick A(at work). We'll see what happens after the first week. Until next time...

Nokia N80 VOIP Heaven

After much frustration over Skype's delay of their Symbian version, Nokia has released an update to the N80 firmware (to N80ie)that allows for VOIP calling. OH MAN IT ROCKS! I just made my first internet phone call on my N80 to a buddy in China and he said that it sounds better than Skype. So easy and incredible convenient. I give it "two thumbs up!"

Stelthy Surfing - www.workfriendly.net

How many times have you wanted to surf some questionable website at work. Well, you can do that with www.workfriendly.net. I got turned on to this site while listening to the TWIT podcast.

Workfriendly will reroute the traffic through their proxy and reformate your page to look like a MS Office application. There's even a BOSS button to change the contents to look like you are reading a productivity document at work.

I didn't really need another tool to help me waste time at work, but somebody might.
